OPI Shorts Story | Essie Set in Stones

I bought my first bottle of Essie nail polish last week for the sole purpose of creating this manicure. It looked a lot cooler in my head. Much less kiddy-ish, not so Asian (I had to say it) and maybe even a bit sexy. Instead, it’s the complete opposite of sexy. I look like a prepubescent child. If I went on a date with a guy, he’d feel like a pedophile. Lucky for me (and probably him), I have no dates.

Despite the cyber child nails and the way I’ve just explained them, I still kind of like them. I’m strange, so I’ve been told. So if you’re on the same page as me, here’s how to get the look. Paint your nails a natural, soft pink. The color you’d use for a French manicure. Create hearts by dipping a toothpick into the polish and drawing a V. Paint the tips with a sparkly polish and finish it off with a top coat and… yay, now you too have prepubescent heart nails!

paper hearts

I like making cards. I lied. It’s actually kind of a pain in the butt (sorry to the people I made cards for), but I do it because… the people I make them for are worth it. And once you get the creative juices flowing, it’s not so bad.

I don’t usually do anything for Valentine’s Day, but I thought I’d be cute this year. After all, it’s not hard to be cute when you’re making cards with pink and red paper, sparkles and hearts, while sitting in a room with pink walls, pink carpet, and a pink duvet. Sorry, did you just puke? I also have a pink chair.

The card with the hearts sewn on was inspired by a photo in my ‘spread the love‘ post. Of course, their version is much nicer… straighter… perfect. It’s so cute. And it would look awesome encased in a deep picture frame.

Anyway, there was no point to this. I just wanted to say, “hey, I partake in arts and crafts, sometimes.” Do I look like the type?

H&M blazer | Boutique sweater | Talula pants | Aldo shoes
Michael Kors watch | BCBG spike bracelet | DIY bracelets

Do you have something special planned tonight? Perhaps a hot date? Romantic evening? Or are you a Valentine’s hater, think it’s absurdly overrated and that every single guy out there should just rot in hell? I’m neither. But I could be swayed, depending on my mood. Generally, I like the holiday. Pink, red, candy, hearts. What’s not to like? You know what would make it even better? A hot date. With a 6 pack. And a hot ass. Yum.

I restyled this heart sweater for this occasion because it was the only acceptable thing to wear. It’s so cliche. So right. Especially with the navy harem pants that don’t look navy or loose enough to be… harem pants. They’re really awesome tapered pants, I swear. Pictures don’t do justice.

Aside from that, I finally got around to making some DIY bracelets, inspired by Honestly WTF. I love how they turned out, and how they look stacked! WTF.

Anyways, whatever you’re doing today, make it extra huggable and kissable! Lots of love.

happy valentine’s day.

Frugal Ideas for Valentine’s Day

Posted in Fun things :), It's a seasonal thing

Let’s admit it, this year is the year to be frugal. (Well, it is for me at least!) And if being frugal is one of the resolutions on your list, then I’ve got some great (and frugal) ideas for you! Even if you’re not working around a budget, there’s nothing wrong with a doing a few sweet things for that special someone(s).

chocolate-strawberries

Chocolate Strawberries

Extremely easy to make. Extremely delicious and fun to eat. All you need is some baking chocolate or chocolate chips, shortening, and strawberries. Melt the chocolate and a bit of shortening in a double boiler or in the microwave. Dip your strawberries into the melted chocolate and set to dry. Then…. you’re done. Finished too quickly? Melt some white chocolate and drizzle on top. Easy, quick, delicious and cheap. Being sweet has never been so easy!

Sexy Lingerie

Okay, maybe this isn’t the most frugal thing but hey, getting some new lingerie does have its benefits: you look sexy, your partner thinks you look sexy, and uh, you’ve got new lingerie!! Being a total sex kitten in itself also has a lot of benefits…. I’ll leave those benefits unspoken.

Why I ♥ U

Sure sure, you say it all the time but when’s the last time you really let him know just how much you appreciate him? Or maybe just how much you don’t appreciate him? Write down all the reasons why he’s special – serious, cute and silly – and package it in a pretty jar, box or booklet. Men need their egos stroked once in a while you know?

Scavenger Hunt

Send him on a scavenger hunt in your home or around the city. Leave sweet and meaningful clues that lead from one to the next… ultimately finishing with a surprise! ;) wink.

Coupon Book

Create a coupon book with favors for all of his favorite things – homemade dinner, body massage, Friday night hockey with beer. And maybe some naughty things too…

Bubble Bath

Light some candles, fill up the tub and get wet! After a exciting V-Day celebration, take a warm bubble bath together. Romantic and relaxing.

Photo Book

Tired of the typical photo album? Try making a published photo album like the one from LuLu.com. Choose between hardcopy or paper back, as well as various themes and album sizes. Definitely something you’ll love as well.

The First Date

Go back to the day it all began and reenact your first date… { if you can remember it!} Revisit the places you went together — the restaurant you ate at, the movie you watched or the mall you dragged him to.

Photo Shoot

Book yourself in for a professional and fun photo shoot. Take a wide range of photos and pick a few to give to your man. If you’re feeling wild, try taking some seductive photos. Don’t be shy!

Indoor Picnic

Spread a blanket on your bed or on the floor and have an indoor picnic with yummy finger food and snacks. Make it fancy with seafood and steak or keep it light with cheese and crackers, but don’t forget the wine!

Sweets Bar

Set up your own dessert bar fully equipped with ice cream, cookies (ice cream cookies anyone?), fresh fruits, melted chocolate , strawberries, whipped cream and champagne. Caution, fun activities may follow…

Naked Day

Has anyone ever tried this? Go about the evening (or day) in the nude. Cook dinner at home, watch movies, dirty dance, go pee… heck even mop the floor or dust your house in the nude.  Whatever it is. Just be naked. There are a few things to keep in mind though – close the blinds (unless you want your neighbours to see),  don’t partake in vigorous exercise (unless you want free ‘limbs’ flying everywhere) and avoid cooking anything that will hurt… like bacon! Oh yeah, this is not recommended if you live at home with your family.

Enjoy!
