Bunnie Bar turns two!

happy birthday bunnie bar!

So of course I had to fly down to Los Angeles to celebrate the 2nd birthday of my blog, because only something so outrageous and fun would do this special day justice. Go big or go home, right?

I wish. But, I did go to LA with my BFF to soak up some real California sun since Vancouver has been a disappointment so far. However, now that I’m back, we’re not doing so bad. As for the trip…I didn’t shop nearly as much as I was hoping to. That’s probably a blessing in disguise.

Zara blouse | Talula tank, shorts | Aldo wedges | Chanel vintage | Dior sunnies
Banana Republic necklace | Michael Kors watch | boutique belt

I didn’t realize that it was Bunnie Bar’s 2 years until it suddenly dawned on me during a conversation. Has it really been two years already?? Time flies, things change, and you get old…but apparently I’m still blogging! And… you’re still reading, which is really amazing to me. Even without readers, I might still be blogging today (probably not), but I know for a fact that it would be much less fulfilling. The interaction, comments and opportunities to meet new people locally and online is endless, and I love it. Is that too cyber geeky?

What I’m trying to say, is thank you. Thank you for reading and sharing with me. Thank you for loving it, or hating it. And for all the readers that remain nameless, thank you too. (But maybe you should say hi sometime.)

Lastly, thank you to the tripod and people who have helped me take ridiculous pictures of myself, and to the friends, especially Ian, who helped me start it all. ♥

OPI Nail Polish: Pinks of Summer

Every year, summer trends inspire new nail colors for the season and although summer colors may come and go, pinks are here to stay…. or maybe pink’s just my favorite color.

But let’s admit it, pink works for any occasion. You’ve got soft pinks for a sweet summer romance, hot pinks for the — not so sweet but rather hot and heavy — flings, coral pinks when you’re feeling beachy and glitzy pinks when you want to bedazzle. I’m right, right?

Here are some of my picks for this summer, every summer.

Get sexy this summer!

When summertime comes, gyms, tanning salons and beaches quickly fill up. Why not? Who doesn’t want to look good? I sure as hell do. However, looking good isn’t only about breaking a sweat at the gym and showing off that bronze hue.

We all know about the hazards of too much sun and UV radiation, and with the Earth’s ozone layer thinning, this adds to an increase chance of age spots, wrinkles, damaged skin, and most of all, skin cancer. Not to mention, sun burns too! Although there are certain things that are great when slightly burnt (bacon, cheese, chicken skin, smokies…. mmm) your skin, is NOT one of them. Crispy human skin anyone?

So how can you look your best this summer while staying healthy and reducing your risk of sun damage and skin cancer?

Well, lucky for me (and you), I was listening to the radio the other day and tuned in to a segment by Dr. Tasreen Alibhai of Vitalia Healthcare which gave some GREAT summer tips!

Antioxidants that protect your skin

Top 5 nutrients to eat or apply topically:

  1. Grapeseed Extract. Found in none other than grape seeds and 50 times stronger than many other antioxidants!
  2. Resveratrol. Red grapes’ skin, red wine and peanuts. I like the red wine part.
  3. Vitamin E. Avocados, almonds and sunflower seeds.
  4. Vitamin C. Tomatoes, red and green peppers, melons, citrus fruits, broccoli.
  5. Green tea. At least 2 cups per day can help prevent skin tumors and skin damage.

Top 6 foods to eat:

  1. Broccoli sprouts. Having a salad? A sandwich? Don’t forget the sprouts!
  2. Beta-carotene. Leafy greens and bright veggies. Cook, chop or puree to get the most.
  3. Tumeric. Cook with it, or find it in Indian dishes.
  4. Dark chocolate. At 70% cocoa and 2 squares a day. Or maybe 2 boxes. Just kidding. Don’t do that.
  5. Lycopenes. Tomatoes and watermelons.
  6. Fish oil. Omega 3 oils are great for the skin. Wild salmon, snapper, cod, mackerel and sardines.

How to shed pounds & look good naked

Great skin ain’t a thang if you can’t fit into that bathing suit!

  1. Cut the soft drinks and high fructose corn syrup! Diet Coke, this means you too.
  2. Choose brown over white. Whole grain foods, brown rice, whole wheat bread.
  3. Fill half of your plate with a rainbow of veggies.
  4. The classic 8 cups of water a day.
  5. Sleep a minimum of 7 hours. Sleeping less than 7 hours will increase your risk of gaining weight!

Get specific details and daily dosages for nutrients in the full article. For other natural ways to stay healthy, visit Dr. Tasreen Alibhai at Vitalia Healthcare.

I love cheap shit.

I had the most hectic work week in my life… so far.

In early. No break. Out late. Followed by “home” work.

Lowrider SkullCandyNo break and out late means no gym class, no time to participate in healthy-lifesyle activities and no time to reduce my risk of extinction.

It’s a beautiful Saturday morning — I’m tired from being out late the night before, but at least I’m not hungover like my  girlfriends. {Btw, your suffering is my entertainment.. thank you : ) } The lack of physical activity throughout the week has caused me to feel like a beached whale, a blob. So I’m going to do something crazy. Something intense. Something I’ve sucked at my whole life.

I’m going to run, long distance.

I get to the seawall and I’m SO excited….. to finally use my new Skull Candy headphones. They’re badass, baby. I hook them up to my iTouch that’s sitting in my exercise armband and try to wind the cord around the clip to shorten it.

My first attempt is a fail. My second attempt is even worse. Clip falls out, cord unwinds, everything falls to the ground. @#$%! And then I ask for help. And help, helps me. I’m ready put myself through torture, but at least I’ll look good doing it.

My headphones are sitting on my shoulders and I reach up to put them on my hea…. SNAP!

skull candies

O M F G. We stood there, mouth open, eyes wide, bodies bent forward, frozen, staring at eachother. My hands beside my head. My new headphones snapped in HALF. You cheap shit!

I ran and I ran hard. I ran 5.5km non-stop.

That’s a world record for me. The frustration of my new headphones snapping in half helped me run harder and longer… which is good right? And my headphones aren’t completely useless… I can still use them for many many things… right?? Yup.

I’m trying to get these exchanged but no where has them in white and silver anymore. I’m so sad. : (
So so sad.

Admit it, your weekend sucked.

You drag yourself out of bed on Monday morning and you’re tired as hell. The usual happens. Go to work, go to school, you do whatever you do. The day goes by and you repeat x 4. Then, the weekend finally comes and the next thing you know, you’re dragging yourself out of bed and it’s Monday morning again.

It happens every week. It’s Thursday, one more day and the weekend comes. It passes. And it feels like it lasted an hour. Then you look back and think, what the hell did I do? You did nothing. Nothing productive, nothing exciting, nothing at all. Your weekend sucked. Don’t worry, I’m with you 90% of the time.

Luckily for me, {and sadly for you}, this weekend was awesome. It was productive, it was exciting and I did something. Something that didn’t feel like a waste of time. And the result? A happy bunnie.

So what’s all the fuss about? Well Friday night, I practically stayed in. You’re probably thinking, ‘How is that fun??’ Well it was. If you know me, you’ll know that I’m always out. I hate staying home… probably because I get bored easily, there’s nothing to do, my room is a pig sty and I’m an only child. But I stayed home by choice and you know what? It felt good and I’m okay with it. What did I do? I “cleaned” my room. It’s a micro bit better than it was before… but I feel good about it, so shut up. And, guess what? I started my blog. Also something productive. And then I went out… but only for a bit. C’mon, you really think I’m that much of a granny? No offense. : )

Saturday {which is my favorite day of the week}, was probably one of the most eventful Saturday’s I’ve ever experienced… okay well the most eventful in a long time. I’m not that pathetic, I promise. Three of my friends and I went riding out in the intense heatwave to Buntzen Lake. All I have to say is it was HOT as HELL. But riding on the highway was exhilarating, it was cool, it kept me from melting. Everything about it felt good — the city zipping by, the breeze, the adrenaline rush, the extreme speed causing wind to seep into the cracks of my helmet… the huge amount of drag I experienced from it and the feeling that my neck feel was going to snap off… it all felt good. Especially the huge helmet in front of me, so considerately blocking my view of the road through the whole duration of the ride… and occassionally bumping into me. That was my favorite. I guess I don’t need to see the road. Bunnies have to sit in the back anyways. At Buntzen lake, we all had a picnic, we all soaked up the sun, and we all frolicked in the cool water, together. It was summer love.

After SUCH an exhausting and tough day, we headed back to Vancouver, for reflexology foot massages. For those who don’t know, reflexology involves massaging parts of the hands or feet where there are…. well, reflexes. Each part of your hand and foot corresponds to another part or organ in your body. So Ladies, you can now feel your way to a man’s heart and men, guess what, you can stimulate any woman’s ta-ta’s without being a total jackass – reflexology foot map. Give it a try, your feet {and maybe some other things} will feel like heaven.

Going back home, the fireworks from the Symphony of Fire lit the sky with a multitude of color as we crossed the Burrard bridge into Downtown, Vancouver. Whenever the fireworks are on, downtown becomes congested with hoards of people — looks like RollerCoaster Tycoon when all your park guests are jammed into one corner and aren’t smart enough to know where to go. So we ‘people watched’ from the balcony. Day over? Not quite. Not without some night riding. My first time, and definitely not my last. I love city lights. It has a calming effect and gives me some sort of warm, fuzzy feeling. Not ready to sleep, I watched ‘He’s Just Not That Into You’ for a second time. By the end of that, I was too into getting some sleep to care if he just wasn’t that into me. ZzzZzz…..

Sunday. 9:30 AM. Cultus Lake. Sun-bathing. BBQ. Sea-dooing. ”Swimming.” I say it with quotations because I realized I actually can’t swim. I’ve been living in denial for years. I can’t even tread water for 30 seconds without feeling like I’m about to sink and drown. Bunnie’s can’t swim. It’s true. So I won’t bother learning. So instead, I dipped in the water, dried off in the sun, dipped in the water, and dried off in the sun. And then I was burnt. I covered myself in Aloe Vera and headed out to AuBar that night – BC day long weekend. Of course, there was NO air conditioning in the club, NO breeze outside and I was walking around covered in a sticky coat of gunk. Mind you, everyone else in the club was drenched in sweat though. I may have felt flithy but at least, if I saw a cute boy, I could stick to him.

I got home that night at 3:30 AM only to find a @#$%ing huge spider about the size of my fist sitting happily on my carpet, waiting to eat me. I froze for about 5 minutes and REALLY thought about whether or not I should wake my Daddy up {wah wah, I’m a baby}. I finally decided to be a man. It took another 10 minutes for me to mentally prepare myself and find the perfect weapon… which turned out to be a textbook. But you know me, I’m so courageous, so extremely brave. So I just did it. Like it was nothing at all. And then I jumped on top of my textbook for a minute. Just because I felt like it. : ) I was scared shitless.

Oops.

Don’t mess with me, bitch.

I told you my weekend was better than yours.
Good night.

xo Bunnie.
