lace top and the hat, again

 It’s the hat again! I’m definitely getting some good wear out of it. Yesterday, I mentioned that I should post some of my work outfits once in a while. Today, I am doing just that. (And I may have taken these photos previously.)

A random memory hopped into my head the other day, and I thought I’d share. There was this one time, in band camp…. just kidding…. I was driving home from who knows where. As I drove through an intersection during traffic hour, my eye caught sight of this huge sign stuck on the lamp post: $5 manicure. Immediately, my eyes widened and I began to fill with pure excitement… Whaaat? $5 bitches!… until I realized it said: $5 manure. I didn’t end up getting it, obviously. That was it. The end.

If you’ve already heard this story, then…. whatever, you.

neutrals and red lipstick

First of all, I’d like to apologize for the poor picture quality. As embarrassing as it is, I… had to use a point and shoot camera because my “better-one-which-I-don’t-know-how-to-use” ran out of batteries. I’d also like to apologize for the ugly floor. I’ve never said it, but it’s atrocious. It’s ugly now, and it’s ugly in my Outfit of the Day posts. If my mom read this, she’d probably smack me. Ugh.

Anyways, I’m undecided on what kind of image this outfit portrays. Am I classy and chic? Stuck-up and boring? Or a hip modern day investigator? Like, Sherlocklia Holmes?

Regardless, I made a bold move by wearing red lipstick. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve made many attempts to wear it, but they’re always followed by tissue dabbing.. and then vigorous rubbing, after realizing that red lipstick doesn’t come off easy. The H&M “color block” (more suitably, boring block) dress was a steal at $20. I ended up buying 2 of them… but I need to get them altered as they’re a little looser than I’d like.

My style is usually more street wear, but I thought I’d mix it up a bit with something dresser. Yay? or Nay? I should probably start posting some work outfits to avoid boring you to death.

you give me low self-esteem

I suddenly had the urge to revive this fedora… after owning it for about 2 years and probably only wearing it once. I think I’ve worn it 4 times in the past month. That’s record breaking. I have an un-surfaced attraction to all sorts of hats and headpieces. Sometimes, I end up buying them. And when I do, they end up collecting dust in my closet. I haven’t gotten quite comfortable with wearing something on my head. I feel kind of silly. And it makes me feel kind of self conscious. Like the feeling I get when wearing glasses. That shit lowers my self-esteem. Ten fold. Even if you think I “look good in them.” Now sunglasses…. that’s a different story. Are you a hat person?

how to wear this season’s bangles

Posted in Accessories, Fashion File

If you’ve hopped around my blog long enough and follow me on twitter, you’ll know that I have an accessory obsession. Yes, I also love clothes and need and want a lot of things, but when it comes to shoes, bangles, headbands and rings, I’m on a whole different level. Accessorizing is what makes fashion fun. It adds the finishing touch to an outfit, and is an outlet for you to express your personal style. Two girls can wear the same clothes, but it’s how you accessorize it that makes it your own!

If Fashion Week means anything at all, it’s obvious that the accessory of the season is the bangle. Put away the dainty chains and delicate embellishments. Fashionistas, designers, and fashion bloggers are having a bangle overhaul — they’re going big and bold. So are you ready for some badass arm swag this season? Be prepared to pile your bangles high, mix and match styles and patterns and be bold and daring.

{ Totally Tribal }

One of the biggest accessory trends this year, as well as in fashion as a whole, is going tribal. Designers have gone gaga over ethnic prints, traditional materials, and lashings of beading… so look out for tribal motifs and designs on bangles, and above all, bead work! I love the beaded pieces from the New Look 2012 bangles collection. The multi-color combination paired with intricate beading creates a style that’s bold, fun and guaranteed to make your summer outfit pop.

{ Au Naturale }

Tying in with tribal is a move towards more natural materials. Think beading, natural gem stones, cork detailing, rope and um, oodles of wood. Yup, I said oodles. Chunky wooden bangles were dotted all over the fashion week catwalk, and I love them because of their versatility — they go with just about anything, adding an earthy, Bohemian vibe. Donna Karan made a statement with her extensive wooden bangle collection for Spring. And while not everyone’s okay with breaking the bank for a trend, you’ll look just as good seeking out some high street alternatives.

{ Color Crazy }

Color blocking, neons, and punchy pastels brightened up the catwalk for spring. This year is definitely color-forward, and the trend has crossed over into accessories including jewelry, bags and shoes. Pick up on the trend and go bold this season with colour statements that add pops of fun to your outfits.

If there’s one thing bangles are not this year, it’s subtle. No matter where we look, accessories are oversized, chunky, and demand attention. Take some inspiration fresh off the catwalks – mix and match bangles of different colors, sizes, patterns and layer them to create your own look. Do it, and take a step back. How do you look? Pretty freakin’ awesome I bet. That’s some major arm swag.

What’s your favorite bangle trend this season?

how to style a sequin dress: just casual

Sequin dress c/o Kirasoli | Zara blouse | BB Blue denim jacket (similar)  | Spring satchel (similar)  | VANs shoes | Aldo bangles | Michael Kors watch (similar)

For the 4th look, I wanted to go casual… as causal as possible when wearing a sequin dress. The sheer blouse I’m wearing is my favorite from Zara. As a size XL, it’s drapes perfectly but I wanted it to be a bit more fitted for this look so I gathered the excess fabric and tied a knot in the back.

The light denim jacket and cognac satchel are really what toned down the dress for me… and of course, the Vans! You don’t see me wearing kicks like these often, but they’re one of my favorites. The only other time I actually wore them on my blog (with the same jacket) is in this post. They make your feet look so small and compact. And if you have wider feet like me, they look like marshmallows!

Would you pair a dress or skirt with runners? Or did I just commit a no-no?

how to style a sequin dress: evening casual

Hi every bunny! I’m on to look #3 with this sequin dress. We’ve done the party look and the dressy daytime look. Now we need to style it so we can wear this dress into the evening! I paired the sequin dress with a heavier sweater to create a look more appropriate for evening events, happy hour or maybe a dinner date. The blazer over top makes the outfit more structured, smart and put together. Depending on your work or company, you can throw on a pair of opaque tights and make it business casual for networking events, schmoozing and whatever else the night may bring. ;) (And I say depending on your work because the dress is a mini!)

If I styled this outfit again, I’d switch out the shoes and wear these instead. They didn’t do the outfit justice. It actually kind of bugs me every time I look at it. Oh well.

So dinner, anyone?
