I’m in New York and summer is here. And since it’s really here (unlike “summer” in Vancouver), there’s no better way to live in the season than getting all colorful up in hurrrr. And by that, I mean strutting your stuff in one of the prettiest trends… tropical prints! Bright flowers, bold sunsets, tall palm trees, clear blue waters, orange papayas, yellow pineapples, hula girls, cocunut bikinis, cocktail umbrellas… okay, maybe that’s a little extreme. I’m extreme, though. Didn’t you know?
The first thing on my summer shopping list (not to be confused with other shopping lists) is a paradise-inspired dress. From doing a lot of online “browsing” lately, I noticed that ASOS has an amazing selection of tropical pieces. Problem: Deciding which dress from ASOS I’d like to hop into first. My favorite thing about statement dresses like these is that you can be a minimalist… with everything else.
ASOS Skater Dress With Mermaid Sequins, Karen Millen Tropical Print Pencil Dress, ASOS Halter Summer Dress In Tropical Print
Like I said, I can be extreme at times. Even crazy. HEHEHAWHAWHAW! So if bold, printed, in-yo-face dresses are a little too much, hit the tropics with just one piece. Dress down busy tops with a pair of skinny jeans and flats for an effortlessly chic look, or pair them with colored shorts and wedges for something a little more bold. ;)
Tailored pants are also a style staple and great for keeping warm in the evenings or… adding sunshine to your outfit (and day) if you’re in chilly Vancouver like me. To avoid overloading the look, match your top or shoes with a subtle color on the pants, or if you want to be seriously fun, match the loudest or go for a totally contrasting color. Beware: May cause a lot of staring. Not for the faint of heart.
Oasis Tropical Jeans, ASOS Embellished Shell with Palm Trees, ASOS Top with Mirror Flamingo, River Island Peekaboo Tropical Short, ASOS LEON Slipper Shoes with Tropical Print, ASOS Neon Plaited Larait Necklace, River Island Tropical Peep Toe Court Shoes
As you can see with your eyeballs, this is not for the fashion shy. It takes bravery. Guts. And sometimes, stepping out of your comfort zone. If you’re the type that prefers changing accessories to stay on trend, unfortunately there’s no shortage of shopping for you either. Add a punch to your favorite LBD or jeans and tee with printed heels or fruity jewels.
I told you mine. What’s your tropical style?

Sigh, that’s so sad. Thanks for letting me know. I did have malware on my site previously, but that’s all been fixed now. I submitted a request for Google to revisit my site and it passed… I guess it harmed my reputation for other sites though! Thanks for still coming by ;)

So my 2nd camera broke. My first one broke in Taiwan and it was my “better quality” one… and now my crappy point and shoot broke too. I do have one outfit I could post, but it’s definitely not… amazing. :( Stay tuned?? And NYC was awesome. I love it there!
THis is one hard decision to make….all the dresses are so divine! Dresses (maxi & mini) will always be my summer/tropical style!!

I don’t believe that you’re not daring enough! You must be tempted by all the pretty clothes at Zara! I’m almost obsessed with everything they have. And I’m certain that you’d pull of tropical pants, no problem!!
I really love the tropical look! I soooo love bright colors and bold prints and wear them often! I am in love with that flamingo shirt. I already own a few flamingo pieces in my closet but there is always room for one more!

Your writing style is so great! Love your humour. I haven’t yet tried out the tropical print trend, but I have my eye on a few things from Zara right now that are bold and beautiful! Have a great time in New York :)
