China Glaze Magnetix Polish

A while ago… okay, a really, really long time ago (ugh, I’m so bad!) the friendly neighborhood polish people at Nail Polish Canada sent me two bottles from the China Glaze Magnetix collection to try. I was really excited. I’ve always wanted to be intergalactic. And I didn’t get a chance to try any of these polishes, even with all the hype around them.
So above, is the Pull Me Close blue polish, Drawn to You purple polish, and 3-in-1 magnet. As you can probably see with your own eyes, unlike other magnetic polishes, you have a choice of 3 different patterns. The only thing is you have to buy the magnet separately.

If you haven’t tried magnetic polishes before, you basically hold the magnet over top a wet coat of polish at a close distance and wait for a bit while the magic happens. And by magic, I mean magnetic particles inside the polish reacting to the solid, red, horseshoe magnet. It took me a while to get used to it. I kept touching the polish with the magnet, and I even tried doing it upside down. No, I wasn’t physically upside down, just my hand and the magnet below it. I found that when you do that though… the magnetic forces + the gravitational pull sometimes actually pulls the polish towards the magnet. Yeah, geeky stuff.
My favorite effect is the star. I’m not a big fan of the stripe because it’s too perfectly even, but I did find that the effect worked the best each time. The photos were all taken with flash because 1) I have no camera, just an iPhone 2) it focused better 3) You could see the designs clearly. Without flash, the purple is actually pretty light and the contrast isn’t very distinct in comparison with the blue… which looks the same in person as it does with flash.
To make the polish last, you MUST use a top coat. No top coat leads to easy chipping for these.

And here is my (sad) attempt at funky nails using tape. I’ve seen people DIY’ing this all over the internet, so I thought I’d try it out. I’m not that good at it. I ended up with a lot of sticky tape residue on my nails and chips everywhere. Next time I do this, I won’t. Unless someone does it for me.
Have you tried magnetic polishes? And do you like them? Which effect do you prefer?

Honestly, aren’t you magnetic enough already??? :)
Cute nails.
I’ve been a big user of this China Glaze polish upon solid recomm from my nail lady…aside from its amazing colors & styles, it lasts until the next maniped session, no chips whatsoever!

The star one looks pretty cute! Looks doable with regular nail polish and a nail art brush though!
J’adore the purple!
the stripe one look nice!
it’s a reminder i shall have a date with manicurist some time this month! i love being pampered! wel, who doesn’t?
LOL! I think it still looks good with glue and chips and all :)
Today I tried out the Sally Hansen magnetic polishes. A little late on the band wagon, I know. So I followed the directions on the bottle and applied a thin coat of the polish and allowed it to dry then proceeded to add a thicker top coat and hold the magnet over it. The finished product was not what I expected to say the least. It just looked like I applied the polish without shaking the bottle first… Maybe I’m doing it wrong, but for me these polishes are a no-go!
oh cool! i didnt even know there was such thing. thanks for showing us how to use magnetic polish.
