We like torture, don’t we?

What’s amazing is fashion over function. Beauty over health. And what lengths some people (ahem, girls. ahem me) will go to  look good, whether it be unhealthy fad diets, bouncing from one detox to another, Botox injections, or plastic surgery (not that I’ve seriously considered any…. yet). However, there’s one thing, one kind of torture, that every fabulous woman does more often than not: wearing a pair of killer high heels. Literally. (And don’t lie, there is no such thing comfortable 5″ heels that you can wear all day long.)

So we force our feet into painful high heels and stilettos for a night out… with no hope of having our tootsies rescued at the end of the night. Besides, how often is it that you meet prince charming at a bar or nightclub and get swept off your feet and safely carried home? Next to none. (But if you’re lucky like me, maybe once.) ;)

Unless… you live in Taunton. BBC news reported that street pastors in Taunton were kind enough to give out flip flops to ladies that needed to remove their shoes after a night out. It began in 2008 with over 2,000 pairs estimated to have been handed out, funded by the church. Well, isn’t that nice. The church is now asking women that have benefited from the initiative to return pairs that they don’t need anymore so they can be washed and re-used.

Are your eyebrows furrowed? Are you baffled? Don’t be. What’s more important than a church ensuring that feet are comfy after going out all night?

It would be nice, wouldn’t it. Psh, Taunton. (Where is that, anyway?) But really. A lot of us treat or feet like trash. They hurt, but we don’t care. And I’m guilty. Asia is a prime example. With all that walking I did, I should have been wearing runners. But… ew. Runners.

With so many different colors and styles of sandals, shoes and flip flops these days, you can find a pair of comfortable (yet stylish) shoes that won’t cost an arm and a leg (or a foot). And you know it too. Littlewoods.com is one online shopping site that has a variety of comfy sandals and shoes that combine style with comfort to wave those painful Saturday night niggles away. And if you do decide to keep on with the five-inch stilettos every weekend (like me), it might be a good idea to invest in a clutch that you can pack your own pair of flip flops in. Just in case of emergencies, or when there’s no prince charming. ;)

i always bring a pair of flats/sandals with me when i know i`m going to be wearing heels..a lesson i definitely had to learn the hard way many times. it`s crazy what women do to maintain themselves. most of our practices are so painful! that story you included about the street pastors was actually very interesting! wouldn`t it be awesome if it was like that everywhere?!

What kind of bag do you usually bring out? I can totally fit a pair of flats in my bag if I’m going out for dinner… or to a lounge or whatnot. But if at a night club, I’m usually with a clutch… which is much too small for a pair of flats! :(

Ehem I definitely packed a pair of runners because my mom absolutely refused to zip up the suitcase if I didn’t toss in a pair but…I haven’t even worn them once. hahaha I guess I like my pain too. And LOL Taunton is awesome! That put a smile on my face.

Taipei is humid as usual hahaha. And what I said about cutting back on street market shopping this year? Er… :P Bought 3 pairs of lace shorts already. My justification is that it allows me to practice my rapidly worsening Mandarin skills and bargain.

Shrimping? You need to fill me in on that! What is it? Where do I go?

Also, I need to have some bubble tea soon! Can’t believe I’ve been here for a week and haven’t had a single cup of the stuff…

I brought runners too, but I never wore them. It’s just inconvenient. Since when did runners look good with shorts? (Maybe sometimes, but not often.) What have you been doing there? And buying, aside from your lace shorts?? I totally ripped mine. Me and my big butt.

And you will HAVE to go shrimping. It’s apparently a VERY Taiwanese thing to do (but a little dirty). It’s basically giant swimming pools open 24 hours, filled with shrimp. And you literally go shrimping for them! What you catch, you cook and eat after. It’s a fun activity to do, but if you suck at it (like me) they also serve food there that is phenomenal!

Here’s the place I went to:
    春城釣蝦場 (Chun1 Cheng2 Diao4 Xia1 Chang3)
    台北市士林區至善路二段 471號 (Zhi4 Shan4 Lu4 Er4 Duan4 471 Hao4)
    (02) 2841-1991

Bring a few friends and have dinner there. Order the cereal shrimp. It’s SO good. And I heard the fried rice is delicious too, but I didn’t get to try it. I REALLY wanted to have the cereal shrimp again before I left, but no time. I miss it. God it’s good. Please go.

i usually bring a pouchette type of clutch or something that zips up on top like the zara sequin clutches. i got the sam edelman gigi sandals recently and they fit perfectly because they are so so thin!
