money almost ain’t a thing

Bling, bling. Money ain’t a thing…. if you’re a shopper extraordinaire like me. I love a good sales and finding good deals. Who doesn’t?? And if you don’t… then I don’t know what to tell you, other then you’re interesting. :)
Sale shopping is dangerous though. You can end up with a lot of stuff you won’t wear, just because it was “OMG, such a good deal!” If you don’t get any wear out of it, was it really a good deal? Or just a waste of money? Think about that one. I’ve been severely guilty of buying things just because they were on sale, but since my closet started running out of space and being occupied by pieces that had no ROI, I started to do this: Shop sales without looking at signs or price tags. If you wouldn’t look at it at regular price, why would you buy it on sale?

Which brings me to my next point: Style is not accompanied by a price tag. I don’t know why some people just don’t get it. The jacket and shoes I’m wearing were all purchased on sale. And the glasses? They’re from Marquee. Yes, the club in Las Vegas. But who would ever know? So, just because you’re dressed head-to-toe in designer doesn’t mean you look good. I hate to break it to you, but you have to actually have, um, a sense of style.
Which brings me, to another point: Where is this shopping fund coming from? In Vancouver, there is a large chunk of girls who are always rocking the most expensive shoes, the nicest bags and the newest designer trends. And I get it — some come from wealthy families, some have “awesome” boyfriends (debatable) and others simply work hard and smart for it. Fine. But what about the ones that don’t fall in either category? How do you do it? Why do you do it? Are you broke? Do you have a plan for “making it on your own?” Does that even matter?
I’m not broke. I’m not rich. But I can’t “afford” to be dropping thousands on bags and shoes like it means nothing at all, unless I want to end up living in a cardboard box. But I like nice things. So, what’s the secret?
XO,

Love your bag! I’m definitely a deal finder, I rarely buy things on regular price unless I absolutely LOVE the item. And I totally agree with you – style is not about how many expensive designer things you own. You can totally look good without spending tons!
Enjoy your weekend!

i refrain myself from buying the little things in order to make investment bigger purchases. it`s helped me live a “simpler” life and i feel that i truly love each piece that i own! i wrote to blog posts about it if you wanna check it out! newest one here: http://ldotcdot.blogspot.com/2012/01/takenote.html

Oh, I am so with you on this one… I am also hopelessly addicted to clearance shopping followed by thrifting and any other bargain hunting… You’re right, expensive clothes can’t buy a style! :) I am smitten by your sparkly jacket, it’s awesome by the way!!!
Good luck!

I rarely spend my money on brand name clothing– especially designer bags with the logos all over it. I mean I’d happily accept it if it was a gift but I would never waste my own money on that stuff. You can find cheap and good quality clothing too– you just need to know where to look!
I find that a lot of girls who carries the LV aren’t really fashion forward either. They just throw on a designer bag because it’s “in” but the rest of their outfit is.. meh.
Love the shoes btw. How high are the heels?

We both know the kind of girls we’re talking about, right? ;) The heels aren’t too high – they’re about 3 or 3.5 inches I’d say.
I concur to the max. Name brand vomit is not always aesthetically pleasing. In fact, conspicuous labels and logos are usually tacky. Preach it sisterrrr.
Not looking at the signs is a great idea. You’re right, money spent on sale items we don’t really like is money wasted, not saved.
The secret is either:
Being happy enough with who you are that you don’t need to live above your means, even though we all would like to. Sure, those shoes with the red bottoms are awesome, but I am just as awesome without them as I would be with them (if I was a girl).
OR, understanding that sometimes wanting something is more fun than actually having it (ask any of Billy Bob Thornton’s exs).
OR, identity theft followed by credit card fraud.
Or follow the Bunny Bar approach. You have a nice sense of style. I don’t know what you spent on this outfit, but you look great. Maybe you could freelance as a style consultant to girls from rich families. In addition to your fee, they would have to buy two of everything and split it with you. =)

I like the last idea, credit card fraud. You think I could pull it off? Haha, no one would suspect me right?! I’m kidding, in case the police are reading. And I really didn’t spend that much on the outfit. The jacket was on sale for about $40 or something, the bag – I had gift certificates for it that covered most of the cost! And I really like your idea – buy 2 of everything and give me one!! YES.
PS – LOVE the glasses, but you always look good in glasses.
I love that jacket, it’s amazing. So funny, I did a post on buying things on style just for the sake of it being on sale. Great minds think alike.
I like girls who work hard for what they want :O) You must be one of them.
Looking good in that glitter card. It’s lovely.
I get my stuff from thrift or discount stores. And I freelance for extra money. That’s where my beauty and fashion comes from.

I always wonder where most people’s money come from lol. But I love your jacket and necklace! Do you still sell that necklace?

Thanks ML, that’s a question I’m wondering about too. ;) I only ended up making one of the necklace. I have had some requests for it recently though, so I might think about bringing it back. If I do, I’ll post it on my blog!
I randomly landed on your blog by googling a clothing image, and I don’t have a blog site for you to identify me with, but I had to comment because I agree with everything up there! So many girls carry that LV speedy with Burberry scarf etc. and it looks so tacky. I love your jacket btw, where did you purchase it? Great blog and a greater writer you are :)

Hi Jane, thanks for stopping by my blog. Hope your coincidence in finding it was worth it. ;) The jacket is from Urban Outfitters. I got it quite a while ago, but they always have good stuff there. Hope to hear from you again soon!
You look GORGEOUS!! You definitely don’t have to spend thousands of dollars to look great. I do like designer bags but that’s just me and I save up for it, if I can’t afford it, then I won’t get it, but I get lucky that my mom and my sister buys a lot of bags and I just “borrow” from them hahaha! When my dad and mom were still together I was lucky enough to be “wealthy” and I did get whatever I want but I mean, my dad isn’t around now and if I want something, you better believe I have to work my butt off for it but that’s life and part of growing up I guess. I don’t believe that money can buy you style or class and I definitely don’t want my bf to be funding my shopping :P
And to answer your question…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSN_JaJ7uHU watch this yt! She is AMAZING!! And she goes through the causes and the treatments for puffy under eye in great detail :D
You look great as always! love the whole outfit you put together down to the shoes :D
I’d love to know the secret too!
I like that your style and outfits are so diverse. You have sale items, some are pricier pieces, while some are from Payless? (A certain white, flat pair you own). I love it, show that you’re a smart shopper! Because honestly, buy a blazer from Forever21, and buy a blazer from…some expensive store, from afar, who would know the difference? Only me, right? :) You got the right idea, Bunnie.
Ooo in that case *fingers crossed* =). Have a nice weekend hopping in the snow!
Hunni, the secret is discount web sites! I honestly can afford to pay for what I want (thank God for a good career), however, I shop smart. Sites such as Gilt.com, Ideeli.com, TheOutnet.com and Ruelala.com have saved me hundreds of dollars off otherwise excessively priced designer brands. Never again will I buy full price…..unless I can’t find it on one of the above types of sites and I save for it. A lot of friends I know shop for their designer items like this AND they have “contacts” that work in the brand stores.
You look amazing! Love the look <3<3
I want to know that secret too! It’s hard making money to pay for the necessities, yet alone tons of designer items! I think it’s a good idea to save up for investment pieces, but no one needs a wardrobe filled with designer duds!
Love your outfit by the way! I love sparkle and sequins *.*
omg this is so true. Sometimes I really regret things I buy on sale and then never get any use out of. For me, this applies to makeup too. It’s bad. I don’t need another red lipstick, especially if it’s not even a good one. I wish drugstores didn’t always have so many sales o.O
Love your outfit. How is it that you can pull those glasses off?
